چکیده
Article history: Received 8 May 2006 Received in revised form 10May 2007 Accepted 1 June 2007 Available online 13 July 2007 Theproduction efficiency and shadowprices of three environmental outputs (BOD,COD, andSS) of 63 household-level paper-recycling units, from a recycling craft village in Vietnam, are assessed A two-stage procedure, linear programming and stochastic estimation, is used to estimate output distance function. Social capital as a production factor and environmental outputsare included in theoutputdistance function. Results indicate thatproductionefficiencies could potentially be improved by 28%. There is a substantial variation in the shadow prices of environmental outputs among the production units of different types of paper products. Furthermore, the average shadowprices of the three environmental outputs are all positive. This indicates a potential for improving environmental quality though introducing pollutionprevention methods to paper-recycling production processes in Vietnam (e.g., recirculation of wastewater), and suggests that it may be inappropriate to restrict the shadow prices of environmental outputs to be non-positive for the analysis of some production processes. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. Shadow Price Specification of Natural Gas in Production Activities of the Iranian Economy
Natural gas plays a key role in Iran’s economy and using its shadow price in allocating it to different sectors can lead to optimal use of this resource. This study uses a non-linear input-output model to estimate the shadow price of natural gas in different economic sectors in Iran. The study uses values of the input-output table constructed by the Statistics Center of Iran for the year 2011. ...

This study estimates the environmental efficiency of international listed firms in 10 worldwide sectors from 2007 to 2013 by applying an order-m method, a non-parametric approach based on free disposal hull with subsampling bootstrapping. Using a conventional output of gross profit and two conventional inputs of labor and capital, this study examines the order-m environmental efficiency account...
متن کاملRANKING DMUS ON THE BENCHMARK LINE WITH EQUAL SHADOW PRICES
Data envelopment analysis (DEA) with considering the best condition for each decision making unit (DMU) assesses the relative efficiency for it and divides a homogenous group of DMUs in to two categories: efficient and inefficient, but traditional DEA models can not rank efficient DMUs. Although some models were introduced for ranking efficient DMUs, Franklin Lio & Hsuan peng (2008), proposed a...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The sheer volume of electrical and electronic waste (e-waste) has presently been generated in Vietnam, posing a growing concern regarding its impact can have on the environment and human health. Therefore, the need for developing policies and regulations towards the environmentally sound management of e-waste is becoming crucial. Although the municipa...
متن کاملEnvironmental Regulation, Productive Efficiency and Cost of Pollution Abatement: A Case Study of Sugar Industry in India M.N.Murty,
It is shown in this paper that the estimates of technical efficiency, scale economies, and the shadow prices of bad outputs for polluting firms in India are sensitive to the specification of technologies and environmental regulation. The output and input distance functions with the assumption of weak disposability of bad outputs account for the effect of environmental regulation on the producti...
